Emergency Water Leak

BPSI responded to an emergency call for water leak that had caused damage under the kitchen sink at Murrieta Fire Station #3.  It was discovered that there was a leak in the hose of the faucet that had been leaking for a while and the area under the sink was saturated with water.

BPSI followed our standard practice to hang plastic to encapsulate effected area and remove all wet material, and set up fans and dehumidifier to dry the area out.  After the area was dry all 2 x 4 and sheer panel were coated with a mold inhibitor.   A new faucet was installed with new angle stops.  The cabinet was rebuilt, and new veneer was installed to return the kitchen to its original look.  Fortunately for this fire station they found the issue and BPSI was able to solve it before it became a big problem.

Mold and Mildew Remediation

Sometimes water leaks lead to mold and mildew that require a more extensive cleanup.  BPSI works with a qualified mold remediation company when it is required.  Steps for mold remediation might include the following:

  • Removing water-damaged, mold-infested materials.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting walls, carpet, and personal items.
  • Removing drywall and studs if mold damage is extensive.
  • Vacuuming with HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filtration.
  • If mold infestation is severe and you are mold-sensitive, you may have to live elsewhere during cleanup.

Example of Flood Damage to a Kitchen Floor

BPSI works with home owners under insurance company claims when extensive dry out and rebuilding is required.  In the series of pictures below you see the story of a house that had a toilet that overflowed and soaked most of the downstairs.  Here is what happened in the kitchen.  The floor and subfloor and all the lower cabinets had to be removed and everything rebuilt from the floor joists up.  The home owners did end up with an updated kitchen.  (The repairs from this flooding were also in the living room, office, two bedrooms and bathroom.)
